Few people know that Social Security’s has a website chock full of information about the various benefits they offer. One interesting page is SSA’s Disability Planner.
The Page actually contains a lot of links to information about SSA’s Disability programs – Social Security Disability (often called ‘SSD’ or ‘SSDI’) and Supplemental Security Income (called ‘SSI’). You can find out how you can qualify, how you can apply, who can receive benefits if you are found disabled, and when Medicare kicks in after you are approved for SSDI benefits.
If you are considering filing for Social Security Disability, it is a good resource to introduce you to the programs and help you make some decisions.
TIP: Some people may tell you that you do not want to hire an attorney before you apply for disability with Social Security. I do not recommend this. I have seen many people make mistakes in the application process that could have been avoided with some advice from a Disability Attorney. If you live in Florida and would like a free consultation, call Disability Attorney John Tucker at (866) 282-5260 to schedule an appointment.
