Tips for Talking to Social Security Employees
Remember, the people that work at Social Security are people just like you. They have demands and quotas to meet. If you think about it, they have a pretty tough job to do, because they deal with the public all day long. Often, the people they deal with are upset or dealing with government errors. So, here are a few tips to help you deal with your average Social Security worker:
1. If you are calling about a problem, odds are they did not cause it. 2. Treat them calmly, politely and with respect.
3. Say “please” and “thank you.”
4. Ask for their name. You might need it at a later date.
5. Ask for their phone number in case you get disconnected and need to call them back.
6. When you finish your call or in-person conversation, make notes about the conversation, included a) the date and time, b) the name of who you talked to, and c) details about what you told them and what they told you.
